Mental Maniacs and Chibicon 2009

Too much time has passed since we last updated, but here goes.

The past couple of months had us hosting the karaoke at Animecon 2009, just weeks after Kitacon. The venue was still the Theaterhotel in Almelo, but this time we were located next to the lobby, in the former dealer room. With extra space and even some sliding doors to provide much needed cooling to all of you who sang to your heart's content. It also showed us that a one hour queue maximum might not be the best thing out there, but it sure shortens the wait. And it is a bit more fair than people filling up the playlist for the rest of the evening during the first 10 minutes.
Kudos also to Hen3, Kaj and the Strawberry AV crew for the lighting and sound.

After that, we went to Chibicon 2009, at their new venue in Houten.
Although we were a bit apart from the rest of the convention, people did come to see us and the sweet setup that the tech staff had provided. (then again, being in the same room as the cloak room tends to draw people to you)
Karaoke was running non stop from eleven till eight, with a playlist that actually never exceeded the 90 minute mark.
We noted down every song you requested that we didn't have available and hopefully we'll find the time to get them finished for the next big event.

ChibiCon 2007 aftertalk

So, the first ChibiCon is over and we had a blast!
Thanks to people who helped out and moreover, thanks to you all who sang those 4 hours.

Ryo and jopped went over to do our usual Karaoke Cafe again. Unfortunately, due short notice, we were unable to re-print the entire list again so I just printed a little changelist on top.

The location was an actual cafe that's part of the sports complex, so the layout was perfect. After some puzzling we put ourself in the back right and set up all our electronics.
For some odd reason the cable to the cafe's audio equipment were crap, leaving us with only the left channel, so we turned everything mono... Ohwell, as long as people can sing.

Some songs have even been requested more than once, the big winners this time are:

Things that could've been better...
The beamer really didn't do it in that bright room. Next time we need something like curtains or whatever to blind those glass walls. At least to show some stuff on the screen.
...Or a better beamer.
Because the list is being stuffed right when we've just started for a few minutes, people wanted to know when their song was coming up. The problem is, that although it shows an time in the playlist, it might not be accurate on the dot. Especially when people don't show up and we have to cancel a preceding song.
This led to some irritation for those who came after we cancelled their song. But we solved it by re-adding their song and bumping it up to the 3rd entry.
Also, not having a big screen with all the announcements on it didn't help at all.
