Kitacon 2009 - England

Alright, where do I start.
Oh yah, our band got invited, the reason why we we're in England at all.

The karaoke was arranged by me (Jasper heh), since the rest of the crew was either or too tired, dead, burned out, or they wanted to see some guy after our concert.
So I did the honour to arrange the Karaoke setup.

They first wanted us to set us up in the big hall, which was, not good.
Since the AMV Disco was also a little further ahead with big boombass boxes, it was impossible to sing against that, so they decided to plant us at the gamesroom.
Terrible, since that room only fitted for around 30 people, but the airco was great though.

When the karaoke started up, people joined and they started singing.
Fantastic sight ofcourse, but then more and more people tried to enter the room, and suddenly we had 50 people in a room for 30 people... obviously not good...

So we tried to manage the people, keeping only the people that would going to sing.
This worked, for a few minutes, but it was impossible in the end.

The karaoke kept playing till 1am and then rum (the founder of Kitacon) told us to better quit the Karaoke since it was impossible to maintain it at the current state, and so I agreed.

All by all, the karaoke was fun, but too bad we had to quit too fast.
The Karaoke was only at the saturday evening (I don't know why, cause Karaoke seemed there to be a huge success, next to DDR).

Perhaps next time better, but atleast the people who sung had their joy, and me a little too :)

Tsunacon 2009

Hey all,
it might be a bit late, but the SMM crew would still like to wish you all the best for 2009.
This Sunday, Power2All and I attended Tsunacon, a new one day event. Huge responsibility for us, as it was the first time without any of the founding/senior members accompanying us and Power had to supervise the DDR. After some minor technical difficulties, we could finally begin when the crowd started swarming to the dealer/event room. The playlist slowly filled itself as the requests started pouring in, with many a song that had not been heard since the heyday of the orange jump suit ninja, as well as some oldies that never cease to go out of style.
Luckily, I had some very pleasant gophers to keep me company as well as making sure everything was running smoothly whilst I took a gander at the other sights.
All in all, there was a very good time to be had at the convention and hopefully it will be even better next time around.

J-PopCon 2008!

Hi all! We had a blast at this year's J-PopCon in Valby! We met so many of our good friends from Denmark and we karaoke'd till we dropped, till over 4AM on Sunday morning.

On Saturday we did a little experiment, where we only took one hour of requests and let these finish before we got an hour of new requests. In this way we hope everyone gets a chance to do some karaoke without the machine going up to over 2 hours of material. We think it worked out pretty wel, despite people queueing up for a whole hour! We're gonna try it again some time we think, but make sure we have better places for people to queue. What did you think of this method? Let us know!

When it got less busy we opened up for good, and we karaoke'd till the morning.

We've already found two video's of people singing Soramimi Karaoke. Check it out!

Found anymore cool pix or video's? Let us know!

2008 news

It's been almost a year since our last message online, so here's a little update to let you know that Soramimi Karaoke is still alive and kicking in 2008!

Firstly, we had succesful Karaoke nights again in Holland at this years Animecon in Almelo, in May, at the Chibicon in Utrecht in July and last weekend at the succesful Abunai convention in Zwolle. It was all great!

Secondly, the volunteers of Soramimi are happy to welcome Hugo, Power2All (Jasper) and Joost to their ranks. Now the crew is 7 strong, and we were even able to do the Abunai con without our 'founding father' Ryo there. With almost 1000 songs in the database, Soramimi is stronger than ever.

To give you some tastes of how Soramimi has done, here's some Youtube clips of this year.

Here's Power2all singing his heart out on this Beserk tune during Abunai 2008.

We hope to have a special surprise for some of the foreign fans for the end of this year, to be showing up at a special convention! As soon as we know more, we'll let you know!

Jpopcon 2007

We have gotten invited to host our usual Karaoke event at Jpopcon in Denmark. And of course we had fun. It is the first time we went that far >_<.

Because it is the first time we do this here, the people didn’t know how it all goes. So we got many same request songs after each other. But after a bit, we encouraged people to sing with each other.

Also this is the first time ever we could do the Karaoke whole night long. At first we were kinda optimistic, there won’t be people that crazy. But people kept coming and leaving so we finally stay all night X_X.

Location

It is something different that we are used to but it was great. But because of the structure of the room we are we always have a lot of empty space, and boy did we needed those.

Equipment

Because we couldn’t bring all of our own on the plane, Kaj of Strawberry AV has provided us with great stuff. A beautiful beamer, mixer and everything we needed to do our stuff. Thanks Kaj. \o/

Abunaicon

Abunaicon 2007 Aftertalk
Sorry we are all a bit busy, so we are late with updating the blog. But here is that of Abunaicon 2007. Abunaicon was at Enschede on 7-9 October. Sorry we didn't make any pictures.

General
As always, when stuff is finally running, it was lots of fun doing the Karaoke Cafe.
The only things we had difficulty with were the poor tech support and the bad scheduling.
The tight schedule allowed us to run for a long time, but at the wrong times.
It wasn't scheduled during cosplay, but it was on during the Slightly Spring performance, which was after the cosplay.
Because Ryo is in the band, he couldn't be in two places at the same time, so poor young Max Robo had to fill in.

Tech support
Something that Abunai lacks is proper tech support and thus also a proper direction for all those technical bits that we ourselves can't provide.
What happened on Friday was that we didn't get the Amplifier and speakers on time.
Even when we *did* get them, the Tech dude had to run off again for something else, leaving us with stuff we had no experience in hooking up properly.
Also, for some reason we were assigned 5 large televisions we couldn't put anywhere, so we ditched those.
Saturday was a bit difficult since Ryo couldn't check all the equipment
Sunday was no problem. We gotten kind of used to the PA set over the past two evenings ^^;

Karaoke competition
The competition went great, aside Max Robo had to run everything. Also many contestants thought that it would be later because Ryo is at the concert. There was also a contestant that want to join but don't know any song we had, he enters with a song he thought to know but really didn't and we lost some time ><;. And thanks for the Haruhi Bunnies for doing the "act" again because Max Robo had to miss it XD.
